Privacy policy

Yearn uses the information described here to operate the dating service. We do not sell your information or use advertising trackers. The app does not add third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Account and profile

We process the account identifier and any name or email Apple supplies when you sign in, your birthday, and the profile details and photos you choose to provide. Your public profile includes selected photos, prompts, interests and identity information you choose to show. Your exact birthday and sign-in email are not included in discovery profiles.

Who you meet

Your private discovery choices describe the categories you choose to appear under and the people you want to meet. We use explicit choices, rather than inferring them from your orientation or public identity. Both people must satisfy each other's age, gender and active distance boundaries. You can edit or withdraw discovery choices.

Location is optional and captured only when you request it. The location feature rounds coordinates to a 0.02-degree grid before upload, and the database applies the same rounding. It does not continuously track you. You can clear your saved location. A distance limit cannot be satisfied when either person's location is unknown.

Optional preference questionnaire

If you opt in, we store the answers and partner preferences you save. These may include lifestyle, personality descriptions and optional height, hair, build and income ranges. Every question is optional. They stay off your public profile, but another person may infer an answer or range from a filtered match. The consent screen explains this before you join.

Questionnaire answers are processed on the server for matching. They are not end-to-end encrypted like private messages. Matching describes self-reported alignment, not verified traits or predicted relationship success. Pool estimates use ranges; small pools and searches involving sensitive personal details do not show counts. We retain a per-account request counter to limit repeated estimates.

You can edit your answers or leave preference matching to remove the saved questionnaire. This does not end existing connections. Unsaved questionnaire and onboarding drafts may be kept locally on your device, separately for each account; the app provides resume and discard controls.

Conversations and safety

Intros and chat bodies are encrypted on the sending device for registered recipient devices. Yearn stores ciphertext, delivery metadata and public device keys. Private device keys stay in secure storage. Your sent-message history is stored on your device in a separate encrypted cache. Reinstalling the app or changing devices may make older messages unreadable. Do not rely on Yearn as a backup of conversations.

We process likes, passes, connection status, blocks and reports to operate the service and enforce the guidelines. A report includes the reason and details you choose to submit. Profile photo review, if requested, uses a private camera selfie and your profile photos; it is not a government ID or criminal background check.

Purchases and notifications

Apple processes payments. We receive signed transaction information, product identifiers, purchase status and the account identifier used to bind a purchase. We retain an access ledger and event records to restore purchases and process refunds. We do not receive your payment-card number. If you enable notifications, we store the device push token and delivery state needed to send them.

Service providers

Supabase provides authentication, database and private photo storage. Expo and Apple support app distribution and push delivery. Apple processes purchases and TestFlight feedback. Providers may process operational records such as IP addresses and service logs under their own service terms. We may disclose information when legally required.

Deletion and retention

Use You in the app to delete your Yearn account. Deletion removes Yearn profile data, owned photos, choices and associated conversations. Deletion of Yearn does not delete your data in other products using the shared sign-in service. Certain minimized purchase or safety records may be retained for abuse prevention, financial reconciliation or legal obligations. Copies you or other people saved outside Yearn are outside our control.

Photos uploaded during an edit can remain in private storage if the edit is cancelled or the photo is removed from your profile. They are removed when you delete your Yearn account; there is no automatic cleanup schedule for these unused uploads.

Ending a connection removes both people's in-app access to that conversation. Already issued photo links can remain usable until their short expiration. Infrastructure backups may retain removed records until their retention cycle ends.

Your choices and requests

Yearn is for adults only. You can edit your profile, withdraw optional matching answers, clear location, disable notifications, block people and request account deletion.
